In 2001 Italian researches reported in Annals of Oncology that high glycemic index foods such as white bread increased woman's chances of getting breast cancer by 40%, while medium glycemic index foods like pasta did not affect the risk. The researchers based their conclusion on their analysis of nearly 2500 dietary records of women who had breast cancer.
How does consumption of high glycemic index foods cause breast cancer?
Eating high glycemic index or fast carbohydrate make your insulin level go go sky high. This in turn might raise levels of insulin like growth factors that increase risk of breast cancer.
Soaring insulin levels also lead to insulin resistance, a metabolic disturbance that is linked to cancer risk. In insulin resistance, cells do not respond to insulin properly as a results cells cannot use store glucose from digestion and absorption of food, cells received no nourishment and thereby run the risk of impaired function and become the cause of breast cancer.
Good Carb to prevent breast cancer include apples, bran, beans and legumes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cherries, garlic, radishes, soy foods, spinach, whole grains, yellow/orange vegetables, and yogurt.
