Colon Cancer
Colon cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in United States. Studies have consistently show that diet high in refined carb such as sugar increase the risk of getting colon cancer. In 1997 researchers in University of Utah analyzed the dietary records of nearly 2000 people and found that those who ate a lot of sugar and high glycemic index carbs were at greater risk of getting colon cancer compare to those who have high consumption in complex carbohydrate.
How does consumption of high glycemic index foods cause colon cancer?
Eating high glycemic index or fast carbohydrate make your insulin level go go sky high. This in turn might raise levels of insulin like growth factors that increase risk of colon cancer.
Soaring insulin levels also lead to insulin resistance, a metabolic disturbance that is linked to cancer risk. In insulin resistance, cells do not respond to insulin properly as a results cells cannot use store glucose from digestion and absorption of food, cells received no nourishment and thereby run the risk of impaired function and become the cause of colon cancer.
Good Carb to prevent colon cancer include Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, garlic, grapes, kale, legumes, lettuce, low fat dairy products, oat bran, oranges, spinach, tomatoes, wheat bran, whole grains, yogurt and other fermented milk products.
